As an Irish wildlife photographer with my images you will embark on a visual journey through the heart of Ireland’s wild realms, where the dance of life unfolds in every corner, captured in these captivating wildlife photographs. Each frame is a testament to the extraordinary biodiversity that thrives amidst the ancient woodlands, meandering rivers, and rugged coastlines of the Emerald Isle.

Behold the enigmatic red fox, poised in a moment of quiet contemplation amid a sea of verdant ferns. Its russet coat, kissed by the dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy, embodies the essence of the Irish woodland, a symbol of adaptability and resilience.

A flash of azure brilliance interrupts the tranquil waters as a kingfisher takes flight, its iridescent plumage a testament to nature’s artistry. With unparalleled precision, it dives into the depths below, emerging triumphant, a jewel of the riverbanks.

In the heart of ancient forests, the elusive pine marten graces the lens with its sleek silhouette, a sentinel of the shadows, hinting at the untamed mysteries that lie hidden within the moss-draped trees.

The proud silhouette of a red deer stag stands tall against the backdrop of rolling moorlands, its antlers reaching skyward, a living testament to the age-old rhythms of the Irish wilderness.

Amidst the whispering branches, a red squirrel darts and leaps, its russet tail a fiery beacon against the emerald canopy. A symbol of tenacity, it navigates the arboreal realm with grace and determination.

Along the winding waterways, the mink prowls, its lithe form a study in stealth and precision, a predator finely attuned to its riparian domain.

On serene lakeshores, a swan cygnet glides with regal poise, a portrait of purity and grace, its reflection shimmering on the mirrored surface.

My photographs offer a rare glimpse into the lives of Ireland’s wild inhabitants, inviting us to cherish and protect the delicate tapestry of life that makes this island nation a sanctuary for such diverse and magnificent creatures. Each image is a reminder that in preserving their habitats, we ensure that the magic of Ireland’s wildlife endures for generations to come.

All of my wildlife photographs are available as prints or framed prints and can be delivered to your door with-in the Republic of Ireland.

The above image of the elusive Kingfisher on a no fishing sign was taken at the new River Birch Photography hide which is located in Mullingar County Westmeath. I got to spend two wonderful days over the weekend photographing the local wildlife that visits the hide daily.

The Photography hide was created over a 3 year period and is managed By local Westmeath man Aidan Fox. While the hide is not long opened for visitors it is already attracting some wonderful local wildlife and will no doubt attract a lot more wildlife over the next couple of years.

The resident wild Vixen Red Fox is called Rua as seen in the image above and she was more than happy to come within a couple of meters of the hide to have her picture taken. Over the two days I was lucky to have taken some great images of the Fox, Pine Martens, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Eurasian Jays and many wild birds.

I would highly recommend a visit to the River Birch Photography Hide even if your not into photography just to see the local wildlife up close. I look forward to visiting again myself in the near future!

We are lucky here in Louth that large flocks of this long distance migratory Geese feed up and down the River and coastal areas. It will not be long now till these Geese continue on there Migratory cycle to Iceland.

I decided to target the Redshank as there was a large flock feeding along the river channel of the Boyne river estuary at Drogheda in County Louth. It can be hard to get a decent-sized image of a wading bird as usually the first sight of a human and there gone!!

The redshank are small, so you have to get really close to them to get a decent picture. I recently purchased a Ghillie Blanket from Tragopan and wanted to see how effective it would be to camouflage me from the wading birds. Having scared off the birds on my arrival and while setting up the camera gear. After lying down and covering myself and the camera with the Ghillie Blanket, I would say within about 30 minutes the birds started coming closer and closer.

I was really happy with the photos I got and I am looking forward to photographing some more of the shore birds next weekend, that’s if the light is good enough!

I didn’t have my camera with me, so I decided to head back home and pick up both my camera, tripod and gimbal head.

The tripod was essential as the light was poor I would need to slow my shutter speed down to help with keeping the ISO low as possible. On my return to my surprise the Cormorant was still there but had moved along further up the canal.

I purchased one from the local hardware store and some 3/4” ply wood for supporting the tray underneath. I picked up some mossy tree branches for perches and used some clippings from plants in the garden.

Below are a couple of the photos that I have taken so far and hopefully as I use the reflection pool more will get better with the staging of the photos.

I brought home a nice mossy tree branch that I picked up from a walk I had earlier in the week along the Boyne River in my local area in Drogheda.

It wasn’t long before I had the birds coming to the feeders and the Sparrows started to perch on the mossy tree branch. After about an hour I realised that the tree branch was maybe a little too thick for the Blue Tits to perch on. I decided to add some bird feed on top of the mossy part of the tree branch to entice the Blue Tits to perch.

It didn’t take long before they landed and posed for a photograph. In post processing I knew all I had to do to get rid of the food from the tree branch was to bring it into Photoshop and use the spot healing brush and it would be like it was never there.
