The above image of the elusive Kingfisher on a no fishing sign was taken at the new River Birch Photography hide which is located in Mullingar County Westmeath. I got to spend two wonderful days over the weekend photographing the local wildlife that visits the hide daily.
The Photography hide was created over a 3 year period and is managed By local Westmeath man Aidan Fox. While the hide is not long opened for visitors it is already attracting some wonderful local wildlife and will no doubt attract a lot more wildlife over the next couple of years.
The resident wild Vixen Red Fox is called Rua as seen in the image above and she was more than happy to come within a couple of meters of the hide to have her picture taken. Over the two days I was lucky to have taken some great images of the Fox, Pine Martens, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Eurasian Jays and many wild birds.
A Reed Bunting in above image.
I would highly recommend a visit to the River Birch Photography Hide even if your not into photography just to see the local wildlife up close. I look forward to visiting again myself in the near future!
